Dentistry for Children in Need: The Smiles for Life Foundation

By | Uncategorized

Dental health for children in need is a noble cause, and the Smiles for Life Foundation prides itself on making it more than just a mission – it’s a joyful journey. The Smiles For Life Foundation was founded by two dentists, Dr. Jeffery Dalin and Dr. Roger G. Hill in 1998. The foundation partners with over 500 dental practices throughout the United States and Canada to raise funds for charity work. Today, we explore the profound impact of charitable dental care and how the Smiles for Life Foundation is lighting up the smiles of kids worldwide.

The Importance of Dental Care for Children

Dental care is often overlooked in discussions about overall health, but its significance cannot be overstated. Especially for children, oral health plays a crucial role in their development. A healthy smile empowers a child, paving the way for better self-esteem and the confidence they need to thrive. Yet, far too many children lack access to critical dental services, leading to a cascade of issues. Aside from debilitating pain and discomfort, untreated dental problems can have long-term effects on speech development, nutrition, and even school attendance.

The Role of the Smiles for Life Foundation

Enter the Smiles for Life Foundation, a beacon of hope for children facing dental challenges. The foundation partners with dental offices across North America to provide free oral health services that kids might not otherwise receive. Through a variety of programs, the foundation not only treats dental issues but educates families on preventative care, ensuring a lasting impact on the health of these children.

From routine check-ups to more complex procedures, the Smiles for Life Foundation demystifies the process and makes it one that is not only accessible but enjoyable for the young ones. By embedding the message of oral hygiene within engaging activities, the foundation emphasizes the importance of forming good dental habits early on, creating a generation with healthier smiles.

Success Stories

The true magic of the Smiles for Life Foundation lies in the countless stories of transformed lives. Imagine a shy, withdrawn child who, after receiving dental care, blossoms into a confident and outgoing student. Or a family struggling to make ends meet, whose child’s winning smile becomes a beacon of hope and inspiration. These are not just one-off anecdotes; they represent a pattern of positive change that the foundation is committed to fostering.

Ways to Support the Smiles for Life Foundation

The Smiles for Life Foundation’s work is only possible through the support of volunteers, donors, and advocates. Here are several ways you can lend a hand and make a difference in a child’s life:

Consider contributing, or better yet, organizing a fundraising event in your community. Every dollar raised goes directly towards providing dental care for children in need.

Volunteering Opportunities

Your time and expertise can be priceless. The foundation offers diverse opportunities for volunteers, from administrative support to hands-on dental services.

Spreading Awareness

Use your voice to spread the word about the Smiles for Life Foundation. Every share on social media, every conversation sparked, is a step towards fostering a community of support for these children.

Charity dentistry is not just about fixing teeth; it’s about building futures. By supporting the Smiles for Life Foundation, you are not only bringing smiles to kids’ faces but also shaping a healthier, more confident generation. Step into the light and join the movement that’s making a true difference—one child at a time.

Smiles For Life: A Resounding Success!

By | Uncategorized

The annual Smiles For Life campaign has been a resounding success since it launched more than twenty years ago. To date, it has raised more than forty million dollars, and all of it goes to children’s charities.

The secret to its success really is no secret. Established by the Crown Council, hundreds of dentists throughout the United States and Canada take part each year. From March through June they whiten the teeth of patients. Rather than pay the dentist, these patients donate to Smiles For Life.

Their donations support such worthy organizations as Feed the Children, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House, to name just a few. Kids who are seriously ill, disabled, and underprivileged benefit.

The more dentists who paraticipate in Smiles For Life, of course, the greater its success. “Imagine if every practice recommended the Smiles For Life campaign to just one other practice!” said Crown Council Managing Director Greg Anderson. “We could double the amount of money we raise in a year if everybody just recommended just one more practice.”

Smiles for Life: It’s Not About the Teeth

By | Uncategorized

Every year, from March through June, Smiles for Life raises money through teeth whitening specials with participating Crown Council dentists across the United States and Canada. The funds support children’s charities the world over.

Smiles for Life, one of many reputable children's charities.Earlier in 2018, Smiles for Life partnered with Esperanza on a humanitarian expedition to the Dominican Republic, where nearly half of the population lives below the poverty line. Esperanza is a comprehensive approach to poverty alleviation. Together they provided as many Dominicans as possible with much-needed dental care, but their trip was about more than dentistry.

“Our goal in coming here is not to extract teeth, or to do fillings,” one of the dentists observed during the trip. “Our goal is to help make life better for the people who live here. Our motto is, ‘it’s not about the teeth, it’s about the people.'”

Another of the volunteer dentists agreed. “We fix the teeth,” he said. “But when you see the warm heart that comes back from being able to change their life by something that we all just very much take for granted – it’s the best part of what we do.”

Smiles for Life has raised more than forty million dollars since its inception some twenty years ago. Participating children’s charities include St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, and many others.

Teeth whitening supplies for the fundraising campaign are donated by Ultradent, the maker of Opalescence teeth whitening gels.

“Smiles for Life has been a great experience for me,” one of the volunteers said, during her stay in the Dominican Republic. “To work with them hands-on, and ensure that Esperanza is continuing their promise to provide our associates with services like dental and mental coverage.”
